They will begin their journey from Singapore on September 10

PONDICHERRY: T. Srinivasa Rao and R. Gnanasekaran, two local environmentalists, have yet again embarked on a journey around the world in a Hyundai Accent car to mobilise an awareness campaign on saving rainforests.

This would be their sixth journey around the world. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Srinivasa Rao (44) and his colleague Gnansekaran (40) said they would begin their journey from Singapore on September 10. They would cover around 75,000 km driving through 50 countries in the five continents.

They would end their journey in September next year at the U.N. headquarters in New York.

Srinivasa Rao said their first journey was on bicycles in 1986 and they covered around 65,000 km visiting 38 countries over a period of 3-1/2 years to spread the message of nuclear disarmament. Their next trips were taken up in 1996 and 2002. Since the first journey in 1986 the two have covered 5-lakh km across five continents.

They have come out with two publications (one in English and the other in Tamil): "Mission Save Earth" and "Bhoomiyey Kaka Ulaga Payanam."

Coastal norms

They said they would use this trip to bring attention to the various coastal norms that should be adhered to so that the impact of natural disasters can be lessened.
